MADRID, March 22 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in the 'Clasico' to move four points clear at the top of the BBVA Primera Liga on Sunday night.

The game was the icing on the cake of the 28th round of games of the season and didn' t disappoint as the sides first and second in the league table produced 90 minutes of end to end football, goals and tension.

Jeremy Mathieu headed Barca ahead after 19 minutes, but Cristiano Ronaldo drew Madrid level after half an hour of a first half in which his side were guilty of missing chances.

That changed after the break and Luis Suarez scored the decisive goal for Barca after 55 minutes after which the home side were the better outfit and could have ended up winning by more than just one goal.

Sunday' s other games saw Sevilla register their third win over Villarreal in 10 days as they followed their Europa League success with a 2-0 away win thanks to second half strikes from Coke and Vitolo, who celebrated his Spain call up with a goal.

Cordoba, who sacked their coach Miroslav Djukic earlier in the week fell to their ninth consecutive defeat as they were beaten 3-1 away to Real Sociedad.

Cordoba were reduced to 10 men after just 5 minutes when Pantic was sent off, but took the lead through Florin And one, before goals from Imanol Agirretxe, Chori Castro and Finnbogason turned the game around.

Meanwhile Deportivo and Espanyol drew 0-0.

Saturday saw the battle for third and fourth places take the headlines as Atletico Madrid cruised to a 2-0 win at home to Getafe to keep the pressure on Valencia.

Fernando Torres was able to celebrate his 31st birthday when he headed Atletico into a third minute lead and the result was never in doubt when Tiago Cardoso doubled Atletico' s lead a minute before half time.

Friday had seen Valencia temporarily move four points clear in third place as they won comfortably away to Elche. Andre Gomes put Valencia ahead two minutes before halftime and second half goals from Paco Alcacer, Otamendi and an own goal from Enzo Rico sealed the win.

Gail Kakuta scored the only goal of the match to give Rayo Vallecano a home win against Malaga that should serve to banish any lingering fears of relegation while Levante remain deep in relegation trouble after Charles' 86th minute goal gave Celta a 1-0 win in the Ciudad de Valencia Stadium.

Athletic Club Bilbao claimed their fifth successive win with a 2-1 victory at home to Almeria thanks to goals from Xavi Etxeita and Mikel Rico and despite an own goal from Mikel Balenziaga, Athletic had few problems in holding on.

Finally Eibar ended a run of eight successive defeats with a 0-0 draw away to Granada, a result which favors the visitors more than the home side.
