体坛英语新闻:Dubai crown prince's horse Manark wins first race of Dubai world cup
DUBAI, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Horse Manark from France which is owned by Dubai crown prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al-Maktoum won here on Saturday the Dubai Kahayla classic race of the 20th edition of the annual Dubai world cup series with a time 2:16:30 minutes.
Amid sunny weather with temperatures up to 27 degrees, Manark won the 2000 meters long dirt track with distinct ahead of his 14 rivals. Manark, ridden by jockey Dane O' Neill finished the track at a winning time of 2:16:30 minutes and snatched 600,000 U.S. dollars worth of prize money. "It is a fantastic result and I am honored to be part of the team of Dubai crown prince Sheikh Hamdan," said jockey O' Neill after the race.
French horse Valiant Boy, owned by Sheikh Tahnoon Al-Nahyan from Abu Dhabi and Raaziq, also from France were second and third, respectively, cashing in 200,000 dollars and 100,000 dollars.
A total prize money of one million dollar was distributed for the race for horses of five years and older. The challenges was sponsored by the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund IPIC (international petroleum investment company).
