体坛英语新闻:Ye wins women's 200m medley, men's 50m fly Asian record smashed

BAOJI, China, April 10 (Xinhua) -- China's Yu Hexin broke the men's 50-meter butterfly Asian record at the National Swimming Championships, while Olympic champion Ye Shiwen dominated the women's 200m individual medley here on Friday.

Yu, the Guangdong native, touched in 23.37 to renew the 23.43 Asian record. The time ranked third in the world so far this year. Li Zhuhao of Zhejiang was second in 23.79, while Shanghai's Shi Yang came third in 23.89.

"The 50m fly is not an Olympic event, but breaking the record improves my confidence," Yu said.

In the women's 200m medley final, London Olympic champion Ye Shiwen touched in 2:11.46 to win the gold. Zhang Sishi of Shanghai came second in 2:12.57, and Guangdong's Wang Xinya ranked third in 2:14.52.

"I competed in two events yesterday and felt a little tired," Ye said, who's winning result ranked seventh in the world so far this year. "The time was slower than I expected. I hoped a 2:10."

"I am in my normal form," she added. "I hope I can win the event the world championships, and I will do my best. I need to make some improvement."

Olympic and world champion Sun Yang made the 200m free final on Friday after winning the 400m free on Thursday. He will also participate in the 800m and 1,500m free.

"I felt very tired after the 400m final yesterday, but I will try my best in the 800m tomorrow," he said.

Tianjin's Li Xiang smashed the men's 100m breaststroke national record with a 1:00.13 time, which was the ninth fastest time in the world so far the year.

Chen Xinyi of Shanghai won the women's 100m fly in 57.80, the sixth fastest time of the year. Beijing Olympic champion Liu Zige withdrew from the final. Lu Ying came second in 57.96, while Zhou Yilin was third in 58.64.

The national swimming championships, which serves as the qualifier of the world championships this July in Kazan, Russia, runs from April 9-15.
