体坛英语新闻:Uganda appoints new assistant coach ahead of 2017 Afcon qualifiers

KAMPALA, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Thursday appointed Moses Basena as the new assistant coach of the national team ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Edgar Watson, Chief Executive Officer of FUFA told reporters here that Basena replaces Kefa Kisala.

"I am happy to get back to the national team because I will always be a proud to serve the nation," Basena, who has been working with Tanzania's Simba SC told Xinhua.

Basena will work together with head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic to handle the team as they battle in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers and the 2016 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) which all start in June this year.

While Uganda will face Tanzania in the 2016 CHAN qualifiers, they are grouped alongside Burkina Faso, Botswana and Comoros in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers.

Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Fred Kajoba was retained as the goalkeeping coach.

The former assistant coach Kisala has been appointed assistant coach of the U-20 Olympic team which will play in May against the winner of the match of Rwanda and Somalia for the 2016 Olympic qualifiers.

Peter Onen has replaced Matia Lule as coach of the U-17 team. Lule is now the new coach of Tanzania Premier League side Stand United FC.
