体坛英语新闻：Gong Lijiao grabs shot put title at Diamond League Shanghai

SHANGHAI, May 17 (Xinhua) -- World and Olympic bronze medalist Gong Lijiao of China hurled two world leading marks on Sunday to claim the title of women's shot put at the 2015 Diaomond League Shanghai meet.

The 26-year-old Gong achieved a first round put of 19.82 meters to beat the 18.96m world leading mark of the season set by Brittany Smith of United States in April.

Germany's Christina Schwanitz, runner-up of 2013 World Championships in Moscow, took the leading position with a throw of 19.94m in the second round before Gong response immediately with the winning mark of 20.23m, the best result for her in more than five years.

"I am very satisfied with my performance today. I will try my best to change the color of my medal this summer in Beijing since I have got bronze medal twice before," said Gong, who finished as the third placer twice at World Championships and IAAF Continental Cups, as well as once in Olympic Games and World Indoor Championships.

Schwanitz finished second at 19.94 while Tia Brooks of United States finished third at 18.66. China's Guo Tianqian, a 19-year-old former world youth and junior champion, improved her own personal best by 20cm to take fourth with 18.57m.
