体坛英语新闻:Interpol suspends partnership deal with FIFA
LYON, France, June 12 (Xinhua) -- International police body Interpol announced Friday that they were suspending a 10-year partnership deal with FIFA. The deal worth 20 million euros.
The deal was set up in May 2011, named "Integrity in Sport".
"In light of the current context surrounding FIFA, while Interpol is still committed to developing our Integrity in Sport programme, I have decided to suspend the agreement," said Interpol boss Juergen Stock in a statement.
"All external partners, whether public or private, must share the fundamental values and principles of the organisation, as well as those of the wider law enforcement community," Stock added.
Seven top FIFA officials were arrested by Swiss police at their Zurich hotel on May 27 on the request of U.S. authorities, one day before FIFA held its two-day congress for its presidential election.
FIFA responded quickly afer hearing the statement, saying "our cooperation over the past four years has been a key part of addressing the transnational problem of match fixing."
FIFA insisted that the suspended program was "unrelated" to the current crisis.
