体坛英语新闻:Blatter not to attend Women's World Cup final
MONTREAL, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Outgoing FIFA President Sepp Blatter will not travel to Canada to attend the Women's World Cup final on July 5, a FIFA statement said on Tuesday.
The world soccer governing body also said its Secretary General Jerome Valcke would not come to Canada either. That means these two senior FIFA officials would have been absent throughout this tournament.
"Due to their current commitments in Zurich, the FIFA President and the FIFA Secretary General will remain at the FIFA Headquarters," the statement said.
Blatter, four days after being re-elected, announced on June 2 that he would resign as FIFA president after an election that is likely to be held late this year or early next year.
The U.S. prosecutors announced indictments on May 27 against nine current and former FIFA officials and five sports marketing businessmen.
Blatter has not been accused by the U.S. prosecutors. But his stewardship of world soccer's governing body is reportedly being scrutinized.
