WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Nikola Mirotic scored 19 points as the Chicago Bulls beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-95 with President Barack Obama watching on Tuesday.

Derrick Rose, who had 18 points, shot just 8 of 22 after missing almost the entire preseason. Jimmy Butler added 17 points and two steals for Bulls.

James scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Cleveland. Mo Williams had 19 points and seven assists and Kevin Love added 18 points and eight rebounds.

Pau Gasol blocked a tying layup by James with 3.6 seconds left and Butler then stole an inbounds pass from Mo Williams as time expired.

The Atlanta Hawks suffered a 106-94 loss to the Detroit Pistons on opening night. All five Detroit starters scored double figures.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led with 21 points and Andre Drummond had 18 points and 19 rebounds. Marcus Morris also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova added 16 points and Reggie Jackson finished with 15.

"They were very good tonight. We weren't," Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer said. "We get to go to work tomorrow."

Dennis Schroder led the Hawks with 20 points. Paul Millsap had 19 and Jeff Teague 18.
