BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttler Yu Xiaohan had been tested positive for diuretic furosemide and her two medals won in the Gwangju Universiade in July has been retrieved, the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday.

Yu, a national team player, has been facing the investigation of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) and further penalty is yet to be decided after her two silver medals out of women's doubles and mixed team at Gwangju Universiade had been withdrawn in September.

"A woman shuttler named Yu Xiaohan has been tested positive in the routine doping check during the Gwangju Universiade. Her two silver medals from women's doubles and mixed team had been retrieved already in September by IBF," an official of FUSC told Xinhua in anonymity.

It's a puzzle to the official how could the doping violation happened. "Three days before our departure for Gwangju, FUSC had carried out a complete doping test for all the athletes, and Yu's check result came out quite all right," added the official.

"Yu Xiaohan had been found using the diuretic furosemide at the Universiade and every competition result related?to her had been cancelled," said Zhao Jian, the deputy director of China's anti-doping center.

"The medal cancellation belongs to just event-connected penalty. IBF might impose further penalty after undergoing the hearing procedure," said Zhao. "The Chinese badminton association will prescribe its own punishment like suspension or fine in line with the domestic rules."

The Gwangju Universiade concluded on July 14. The FUSC received the doping notice from the International University Sports Federation at the end of the month and the medals were taken back in September.

The 21-year-old Yu is a member of the squad in winning the mixed team title of the Asian youth championship in her international debut. She is also a women's doubles champion in Singapore Open in April pairing Ou Dongni.
