BUDAPEST, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Swimmers Laszlo Cseh and Katinka Hosszu were named the Hungarian men's and women's athletes of the year on Thursday.

Cseh, a five-time Olympic medalist, won the men's 200m butterfly at the 2015 world championships and holds the European records for the 200 individual medley, the 400m individual medley and the 200m butterfly.

Hosszu, a five-time world champion nicknamed the "Iron Lady", won the 200m individual medley and the 400m individual medley at the 2015 worlds and six gold medals at the 2015 European short course championships, breaking the world records in the 100m and 400m individual medleys.

Hosszu, currently in the United States for a meet, missed the award ceremony. Since last Wednesday she has been at odds with the Hungarian Swimming Federation after she publicly called on the federation to provide more support for its athletes and tore up a contract valued at over 40,000 dollars which would have required her to promote the federation.

The award for coach of the year went to Pal Dardai.

Dardai coached the Hungarian national soccer team through much of 2015 and is considered by many as a force behind Hungary's return to the European championship finals in France later this year after a 44-year absence.

The men's soccer team won the team award.

Goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly was voted soccer player of the year. Kiraly had his 100th cap in 2015, when Hungary beat Norway to win the coveted European Championship slot. Striker Tamas Priskin was awarded the prize for the best goal scored, the winning goal against Norway.
