体坛英语新闻:Maradona confirms alliance with Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan
BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Former Argentinian soccer star Diego Armando Maradona confirmed Thursday he would continue working with Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan, International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) presidential candidate.
"I would like to clear up the rumours which indicate that I no longer work with Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan. They are completely false," the former soccer player wrote on his Facebook account.
On Wednesday Al Hussein publicly ruled out the pair were working together on his candidacy despite highlighting that Maradona was his friend.
"On Monday we will meet to continue working on his candidacy for FIFA president. I am completely behind him because he is a hardworking, good person," said the Argentinian star on Thursday.
The Jordanian prince "is not one of those that left FIFA through the back door," said Maradona in reference to the high-ranking soccer executives reported for their alleged involvement in corruption.
The elections will take place on Feb. 26.
Maradona and the Jordanian prince have been friends for a long time and former Argentina coach gave his support to his friend last year when the prince lost the elections to Swiss Joseph Blatter.
Since the end of 2015, Blatter has been banned from soccer for eight years for violating the soccer organization's ethics.
