HAVANA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Around 350 athletes from 25 countries are confirmed for the 2nd Havana Triathlon, scheduled for February 13-14, the official daily Granma highlighted on Thursday.
Alejandro Puerto, Cuba's national commissioner for triathlon, said be Mexico, U.S., Britain, Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland and Venezuela will send athletes.
Cuba's hopes to see one of its own triumph may be slim but the island is counting Leslie Amat, 23, ranked number 151 in the world in women's rankings and Michel Gonzalez, 30, ranked 260 in the world in men's rankings. The two-day competition is comprised of races over three different distances, including sprint (750m swim, 20km bike ride, 5km run), medium (1.9km swim, 90km bike ride, 21.1km run) and long course (3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, 42.2km run).
