THE HAGUE, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- After seven league wins in a row the winning streak of AZ came to an end in Amsterdam on Sunday, with Ajax winning 4-1.

Thanks to their winning run AZ had climbed up to the third place of the Eredivisie, but the difference with second placed Ajax was still 18 points. For that matter Ajax did not need a win, but the Amsterdam based giants needed three points to follow league leaders PSV in the title race.

AZ were not able to impress like they did in the previous matches and Ajax took a very deserved lead through Arek Milik and Davy Klaassen. In the second half Klaassen added his second goal and secured the home win.

Although Ajax played the final 35 minuted with ten men, after Anwar El Ghazi received his second yellow card, AZ only managed to score once. After a fine combination between Markus Henriksen and AZ striker Vincent Janssen the latter netted his 16th goal of the season. With his second goal Milik made it 4-1 in injury-time.

Feyenoord booked their first victory of 2016, ending a winless streak of nine matches. Feyenoord defeated FC Utrecht 2-1 in Utrecht on Sunday. Sebastien Haller opened the scoring fort the home-team, but Tonny Vilhena and Dirk Kuijt earned the visitors the victory. Also on Sunday Heracles Almelo suffered a shock 5-0 home defeat against Roda JC Kerkrade.

On Saturday league leaders PSV booked a 2-0 win at home against ADO Den Haag, three days after the 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Marco van Ginkel broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute and Luuk de Jong added the second goal, his 18th goal of the season.

After 25 match rounds PSV lead the Eredivisie with 62 points, with Ajax still one point behind. Feyenoord (40) climbed back to the third place, followed by AZ (40), FC Utrecht (38) and Heracles Almelo (38).
