MADRID, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona equaled the Spanish record of 34 games without defeat as they beat Sevilla 2-1 in the Camp Nou Stadium on Sunday night, but coach Luis Enrique commented afterwards that records are only worthwhile if they come backed up with silverware.

The win, which came thanks to goals from Leo Messi and Gerard Pique, keeps Barca eight points clear of Atletico Madrid and moves them 12 clear of Real Madrid in third, and the Barca coach was more interested in the lead at the top of the table than the 34-match unbeaten run.

"It doesn't mean anything to me," he said. "It's worthwhile if you win titles, but if you don't then it says nothing."

"Atletico are eight points behind us, which means they are close. We have said we want to win the title from the start. It is our main objective and we are in the best position, but we have to win the necessary points to be champions," he explained.

Barca had to work hard against Sevilla, who had not won away all season in the Primera Liga, but who took the lead through Vitolo, while Barca saw Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico pull off a string of fine saves to keep them in the game until the final whistle.

Enrique said despite his side not finishing off their rivals, he was content with the total of 7 shots his side got on target.

"It's something that shows how strong the team is. I don't think we deserved to be behind in the score," he said.

He was also pleased with the way his side reacted after he made several changes to his usual starting 11.

"It is the squad that wins you titles. There are no first choice players and substitutes here. We have players who play more or less games," he concluded.
