体坛英语新闻：Chinese Yang takes bronze in World Junior Speed Skating Championships 2016

CHANGCHUN, China, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Yang Tao got the bronze medal of the men's 500 meters at the ISU World junior speed skating championships 2016 in Changchun, China's northeast Jilin province on Friday.

Yang, who pocketed one bronze medal at the junior speed skating World Cup Final last weekend here, timed in 36.03 seconds, beaten by Ignat Golovatsyuk from the Repiblic of Belarus, Candian Christopher Fiola by 0.31 sesonds and 0.06 seconds.

Gao Tingyu, who had been crowned at the junior men's 500 meters in 2016 Chinese National Winter Games, fell out of the track on home soil.

"Gao should be one of the medists today, and I am not very satisfied with my preformance. I would like to enhance my abilities at the starting line this year," said Yang.

Chinese women didn't stand on the podium in the women's 500m or 1,500m. Han Mei, who had three silver medals at the Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), finished fourth in the two competitions.

The two gold medals of women's events on Firday belonged to Russians. Daira Kachanova clocked 39.09 seconds to win the women's 500 meters, and her compatriot Elizaveta Kazelina took the gold in two minutes and 0.68 seconds.

A total of 119 junior speed skaters from 20 countries and regions are competing here in the championships which will conclude on Sunday.
