BERLIN, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Javier Hernandez' goal and assist helped Bayern Leverkusen to march to a 3-0 victory over Wolfsburg at the opener of the 28th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

Leverkusen remain in the race for a Champions League berth while Wolfsburg's chance for a place in Europe' s top competition minimized after suffering the tenth loss of the season.

The "Werkself" controlled the proceedings from the kick-off as Karim Bellarabi missed the target from the edge of the box with just three minutes into the game. Wolfsburg lacked in penetration and failed to gain a foothold into the game.

As a consequence, the hosts took the lead with 27 minutes on the play clock. Leverkusen' s youngster Julian Brandt exchanged a one-two with Hakan Calhanoglu to beat Wolfsburg' s custodian Diego Benaglio into the bottom left. In the dying minutes of the first half, Brandt was again in the thick off things after testing goalkeeper Benaglio with another shot on target.

After the restart, Wolfsburg had the chance to level the scores but Joshua Guilavogui was unable to capitalize on Andre Ramalho' s blackout. However, Leverkusen continued to control the reins as Hernandez, who came from the bench in the 61st minute, proved to be a steady threat for the "Wolves" .

Wolfsburg' s Benaglio denied Hernandez twice before the Mexican international doubled the lead with a well-placed curl into the far post corner in the 73rd minute. The hosts weren' t done with the scoring as Hernandez teed up for Vladen Yurchenko, who marked his first ever Bundesliga goal, to round off Leverkusen' s 13th victory of the season.

With the result, Leverkusen climb from the sixth to the fourth place while Wolfsburg stay on the eighth position, with a four-point deficit to the top six.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: front-runners Bayern Munich host relegation threatened Eintracht Frankfurt, bottom side Hannover face Hamburg, Mainz encounter Augsburg, Ingolstadt see Schalke, newly promoted Darmstadt meet Stuttgart and runner-up Dortmund clash with Werder Bremen.
