体坛英语新闻:Marseille sack coach Michel
PARIS, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Ligue 1 club Marseille announced they sacked coach Michel with immediate effect Tuesday morning, just one day ahead of their Coupe de France semifinal at Ligue 2 side Sochaux.
"Given the behavior of Michel, notably during those last three weeks, Olympique de Marseille have suspended Michel with immediate effect and summoned him to a pre-redundancy interview," OM said in a statement.
The club added that assistant coach Franck Passi would take charge until the end of the season, with Basile Boli being named sports coordinator to assist him.
Michel, 53, took over OM in August 2015 and won only two Ligue 1 matches at the Velodrome, both coming during his honeymoon period back in September.
And the team have not won in 11 Ligue 1 fixtures and are only six points clear of the relegation with four games to play.
Their only two wins since early February have come against amateur rivals in the French Cup under the Spaniard, the ex-Sevilla and Olympiakos coach.
