体坛英语新闻:Suarez leads 23-strong Uruguay squad for Copa America
MONTEVIDEO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) announced on Friday the final list of the 23 players that will participate in the 2016 Centennial Copa America with forward Luis Suarez as the main figure.
Also featured in the list are defender and captain, Diego Godin, finalist in the current European Champions League with Atletico Madrid, and attacker Edinson Cavani, from Paris Saint-Germain.
Midfielders Nicolas Lodeiro, Gaston Ramires and Christian Rodriguez are all on the list of 35 reserves due to injuries which has put them in doubt for the continental tournament.
The only two players called upon in the final 23 that are from local teams are defenders Jorge Fucile and Mauricio Victoriano. Both of these players play for Montevideo's Nacional.
The 2016 Centennial Copa America will take place in the United States from June 3 to 26 and it will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) along with teams from Central and North America as well as the Caribbean.
Uruguay, who one their 15th Copa America in Argentina 2011, will form part of Group C in the tournament along with Mexico, Jamaica and Venezuela.
