体坛英语新闻：Magath takes helm at Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng

BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League (CSL) club Shandong Luneng announced on Wednesday that Felix Magath has been appointed as head coach of its senior team to fill in the vaccum left by Mano Menezes.

"As the coach, Magath will lead the side in all sorts of matches from now on," Luneng said

on its twitter-like Weibo account.

Meanwhile, the former Bayern and Wolfsburg coach expressed his delight as a chief soccer trainer in China through his social media account.

In 2010, Luneng's current captain Hao Junmin signed with German Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04, which was then under Magath's charge.

The 62-year-old had won top-flight German titles twice with Bayern Munich in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons as well as another with Wolfsburg in 2008-2009.

As a player, Magath helped Hamburger win three Bundesliga titles and the European Cup in 1983.

Luneng had made the cut to the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League, but the team was underperforming this season in CSL and failed to achieve a single win in six consecutive rounds. The under-fire Brazilian Menezes resigned for personal reasons on Tuesday.

Until now, Luneng had two wins, three draws and six losses after 11 rounds and sat at the remote 15th place in the 16-team top flight league.
