体坛英语新闻: China misses men's 3m springboard gold at FINA Diving World Series
BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Jack Laugher of Britain snatched men's 3m springboard gold and China won other two titles at the FINA/NVC Diving World Series 2017 at the National Aquatics Center, the "Water Cube" on Saturday.
Jack Laugher took the lead from the beginning and beat two Chinese divers with 554.00 points, Xie siyi won silver at 539.15 and Cao Yuan won bronze at 510.05.
As a champion of 3m synchro springboard and silver medalist of 3m individual springboard at 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Jack Laugher spoke highly of his performance today. "This score is very close to my personal best, my favourate dive today is my fourth, 5156B.
"I'm very, very happy to dive here and I really enjoy this competition. This is a good start for new season and I will keep training and preparing for the rest of the World Series and World Championship. I am also looking for changes, for example, improving difficulty degree of my dives." Laugher added.
"There are up-and-downs in tonight's competition, but this is something I need to get through in the future and there is much to learn. Congrats to Jack, he deserves this title, his performance today worths an Olympic gold," said Cao Yuan.
In the women's 3m springboard, Rio Olympic champion Shi Tingmao showed her supremacy, scoring a high score of 391.05 points for the gold medal. Her teammate Chang Yani ranked second with 330.35 and Australian Maddison Keeney ranked third with 327.85.
"I love competing at home, it brings me more confidence to win. Chang Yani also dived well today and she will have a bright future as long as she seizes chances and persists in training," said Shi.
Wang Han/Li Zheng won the mixed 3m synchro springboard title with stable dives, collecting a total of 323.10 points. They were followed by Maddison Keeney/Dominic Bedggood of Australia at 305.34 and Jennifer Abel/Francois Imbeau-Dulac of Canada with 304.74.
The FINA Diving World Series is a high-profile competition which offers an annual meeting opportunity for the world's top divers.
