体坛英语新闻:Hannover upset Dortmund, Bayern climb atop in German Bundesliga
BERLIN, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Front-runners Dortmund lost 4-2 to newly promoted Hannover and their top spot in the standings after Bayern Munich overpowered ten-men Leipzig 2-0 at the 10th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
Hannover shocked ten-men Borussia Dortmund with two second-half goals to inflict the "BVB" the second loss of the season.
Dortmund assumed control from the kick-off and missed the chance to open the scoring in the second minute as Hannover's defender Oliver Sorg cleared the cross from Andrey Yarmolenko before it could find Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in promising position.
Despite Dortmund's early pressure it were the hosts who opened the scoring with 20 minutes played as goalkeeper Roman Buerki felled Felix Klaus inside the box, allowing Hannover's Jonathas to convert the awarded penalty from the spot.
Peter Bosz' men regrouped and responded seven minutes later when Dan-Axel Zagadou slotted home from inside the area after benefitting on a misplaced clearance.
The visitors should have grabbed the lead but Andrey Yarmolenko somehow pulled the ball over the bar from seven meters in the 37th minute. The "Reds" punished Dortmund's wastefulness moments later as Ihlas Bebou completed a fast break to make it 2-1 on the scoreboards.
After the restart, Dortmund increased the pressure and restored parity with seven minutes into the second half after Andrey Yarmolenko volleyed home a rebound from inside the box.
Just as Dortmund were about to rally back, Dan-Axel Zagadou committed a last-man foul to Jonathas to see a straight red car in the 59th minute. To make things worse, Felix Klaus utilized the subsequent free kick to score the 3-2 lead with the hour mark.
Dortmund kept it bowling but Hannover made the game safe in the 86th minute when Bebou wrapped up his first-ever career brace following a counter attack.
With the result, Dortmund lose their top spot after failing to reap a win in their third consecutive Bundesliga clash while newly promoted Hannover jumped on the 4th place.
Bayern Munich took advantage on Dortmund's defeat and moved atop the standings for the first time of the season as the German record champions beat Leipzig 2-0 on the goals from James Rodriguez and Robert Lewandowski.
Leipzig caught the worst possible start on the road as Willi Orban received his marching orders with only 12 minutes played after the defender committed a professional foul to Arjen Robben.
The game was already over for the visitors especially when James Rodriguez tapped home a square pass from Robben to break the deadlock in the 19th minute.
Bayern continued on the front foot and added another goal to their lead in the 38th minute as Robert Lewandowski made use of Javi Martinez' through ball to make it 2-0.
Leipzig increased their efforts after the restart but Bayern retracted and protected their two-goal lead to the end to grab their place in the front seat of the Bundesliga standings.
Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach came from behind to shock Hoffenheim 3-1 with three second-half goals.
Bayer Leverkusen recorded their second win in a row after turning the tides to 2-1 against rivals Cologne.
Wolfsburg secured a late 1-1 draw at Schalke as Divock Origi cancelled out Nabil Bentaleb's opener in the dying seconds of the game and Hertha Berlin edged Hamburg 2-1 on home soil.
The following fixtures complete the 10th round on Sunday: Werder Bremen host Augsburg and newly promoted Stuttgart face Freiburg.
