BERLIN, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Front runners Bayern Munich shared the spoils with Augsburg while runners up Hertha Berlin lost 3-1 to Werder Bremen at the opener of the 5th round in Bundesliga on Tuesday.

Bayern Munich's perfect start came to an end as Felix Goetze's late equalizer helped Augsburg to pick up a surprising 1-1 draw on the road.

The hosts assumed possession from the kick off but yet resilient Augsburg disrupted Bayern's style of play in the opening period.

As the match progressed, Bayern came to clear-cut opportunities as Renato Sanches pulled just wide before Sandro Wagner tested Augsburg goalkeeper Andreas Luthe several times.

Augsburg's custodian Luthe remained in the thick of things as he punched Renato Sanches promising shot to the post before the break.

However, Bayern's effort paid off after the restart when Arjen Robben capitalized on Serge Gnabry's square pass to score the opener from inside the box with 48 minutes played.

Renato Sanches had the chance to extend the lead but the Portuguese was unable to beat Augsburg's Luthe in a one-on-one.

Bayern remained on the front foot as Franck Ribery had a goal ruled offside but still the visitors were able to snatch a late draw against the run of the game after Felix Goetze chested a corner over the line in the dying minutes of the game.

With the result, Bayern remain atop the standings even though their winning start came to an end, and Augsburg recorded their second draw to slip to the 12th place.

Werder Bremen continue their unbeaten run after inflicting runner up Hertha Berlin the first loss of the season following a 3-1 win.

The "Green-Whites" secured a bright start on home soil as Martin Harnik opened the scoring with 11 minutes into the game.

Bremen doubled the lead and shocked the runner up before the break as Milos Veljkovic headed home a corner kick to make it 2-0 on the scoreboards.

Hertha Berlin responded after the restart through Javairo Dilrosun, who beat Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka from sharp angle into the near post corner to reduce the arrears in the 53rd minute.

It was a short-lived joy for Berlin as Max Kruse converted a foul play penalty from the spot to kill the game in the 66th minute after restoring their two-goal lead.

With the victory, Werder Bremen jumped on the 2nd place whereas Hertha Berlin moved to the 3rd position in the standings.

Elsewhere, Freiburg wrapped up a 1-0 victory over struggling Schalke, who suffered their fifth straight loss to the season and Hannover still wait for their first three points of the campaign as Hoffenheim reaped a 3-1 win on the road.

The following fixtures conclude the 5th round on Wednesday: newly promoted Dusseldorf face Bayer Leverkusen, Leipzig host Stuttgart, Borussia Monchengladbach see Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund clash with Nuremberg and Mainz encounter Wolfsburg.
