体坛英语新闻:Ghana to host 2023 All-Africa Games
ACCRA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ghana has been awarded the rights to host the 13th edition of the All-Africa Games (AAG) in 2023, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced in a release on Friday.
Ghana beat off stiff competition from Egypt to win the bid.
The West African country was declared host of the competition at the 3rd Specialized Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports forum of the African Union Commission Minister's session held in Algiers, Algeria on Thursday.
The AAG is a multi-sport event held every four years with the competing nations coming from the African continent.
According to the release, Ghana's Sports Ministry believes this is a unique opportunity to rewrite the scripts of the country's sports for the next century.
"The Ministry is committed to providing facilities for Ghana to host a successful tournament, as the continental sports event will be staged in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast stadia," said the release signed by Perry Okudzeto, the deputy sports minister.
This will be the first time that Ghana will be hosting the tournament.
The 2023 All-Africa Games will also serve as qualifiers for the various disciplines for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
