体坛英语新闻:Serbia, Spain in lead after water polo super finals group stage
BELGRADE, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Serbia and Spain came on top as group leaders of the FINA Water Polo World League Super Finals after beating Kazakhstan and Canada respectively in the last game of the group stage in Belgrade on Thursday.
Olympic champion Serbia eased past Kazakhstan in Group B by 20-6 (4-0, 6-3, 6-1, 4-2), marking the third victory in the tournament.
Spain defeated Canada in Group A by 12-5 (2-2, 1-1, 4-2, 5-0), marking their second victory, alongside one draw in super finals.
Previously, world champion Croatia defeated Australia by 11-9 (3-3, 2-2, 6-3, 1-1), marking their second victory, and a position of runners-up in Group B behind Serbia.
Hungary defeated Japan by 13-9 (3-3, 3-3, 3-2, 4-1), which was decided in the final quarter - thus securing a position behind Spain in Group A.
FINA Water Polo World League Super Finals trophy are played here from June 18 to 23.
In Friday's quarterfinals, Serbia will take on Canada, while Spain will play against Kazakhstan.
Participants of super finals are the best teams from the Intercontinental Cup and Europe, and the winners will get the early ticket for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
