体坛英语新闻:Juanfran joins Brazil's Sao Paulo
SAO PAULO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Former Spain international right-back Juanfran joined Sao Paulo on a free transfer on Saturday after ending an eight-year spell at Atletico Madrid.
The 34-year-old will be tied to the six-time Brazilian Serie A champions until December 2020, according to a statement on the club's official website.
He is Sao Paulo's second high-profile signing in less than two days following the arrival of veteran Brazil international left-back Dani Alves, who also joined on a free transfer.
"Juanfran will face the challenge of playing in South America, participating in the Brazilian championship and feeling the indescribable atmosphere of the Morumbi [stadium]," read a Sao Paulo statement.
Juanfran is one of the most decorated players in Atletico's history, having won two Copa del Rey titles, two Europa League trophies, one La Liga championship and a Spanish Super Cup.
"I was born, raised and have played all my life in Spain. I wanted to live this dream of playing in Brazil," he said.
Sao Paulo are currently sixth in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings, eight points behind leaders Santos after 12 rounds.
