体坛英语新闻:AS Roma overcome Real Madrid on spot kicks in preseason game
ROME, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- In a highly entertaining pre-season game at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, AS Roma drew 2-2 with Real Madrid after regulation time but won on penalties with Marcelo missing his kick.
Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Marcelo cut inside from the left and scored into the far corner. In the 34th minute, Zaniolo made a beautiful low cross from the right for Perotti to fire an equalizer inside the box.
Real Madrid took the lead again in the 39th minute as Casemiro headed home Marcelo's cross. Cengiz passed a perfectly measured through ball and Dzeko found the top corner inside the box after only one minute, drawing Roma level again.
The match was at a 2-all draw after regulation time. In the penalty shootout, both sides succeeded in their first four shots. In the fifth shot, Marcelo's attempt hit the crossbar and was out, giving Roma the win against Real and sealing them the Mabel green cup.
"Our tempo in the first half was good and we created some good chances. Perhaps we didn't make the most of them -- but the result wasn't what mattered tonight. What mattered was demonstrating that we can compete against a side like Real," AS Roma coach Fonseca said after the match.
