体坛英语新闻:Australian, Brazilian and British rowers shine in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Australian, Brazilian and British para-athletes were on top of the first day of Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Hungary, according to the official results here on Thursday.

The first final of the day was the VL2 Men 200m Final B, with Stewart Clark from Britain winning the race with 55.54 seconds, followed closely by Canadian Mathieu St-Pierre with 55.94, whereas Blake Haxton from the United Stated came third with 56.59 seconds.

The second final was the VL3 Men 200m Final B, with Polish athlete Tomasz Mozdzierski winning the race with a time of 50.73 seconds, followed by Scott Martlew from New Zealand almost getting him at the end with 50.76 seconds, while Italian Fabrizio Aprile came third with 50.90 seconds.

The third final of the day was the VL2 Men 200m Final A, with Brazilian athlete Luis Carlos Cardoso Da Silva winning the race with 51.68 seconds, the silver went to Norberto Mourao with 52.82, while Jakub Tokarz from Poland got the bronze with 53.21 seconds.

The first final of the day for women was the VL2 Women 200m Final A, with Emma Wiggs from Great Britain winning the race with 56.10 seconds, followed closely by Australian Susan Seipel with 57.74, whereas Mariia Nikiforova from Russia came third with 59.24 seconds.

The last final of the day was the VL3 Men 200m Final A, with Australian athlete Curtis McGrath winning the race with a time of 47.42 seconds, followed by Caio Ribeiro de Carvalho from Brazil almost reaching him at the end with 47.52 seconds, while Stuart Wood from Great Britain came third with 48.42 seconds.

The race course is 2,400m long and 140m wide. There is a separate facility available for warming up to all contestants. Since 2018 a major investment has taken place including road reconstruction and extension of the venue's car parking capacity.

The championships will end on August 25.
