NAIROBI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya golf team is ready and up to the task as it heads to Mauritius for this year's Africa Amateur Golf Championship, which has attracted 15 countries.

The premier continental amateur golf competition will be staged in Mauritius from Oct. 8 to 13.

Four players have been selected to carry high the Kenyan flag in a tournament that is expected to be challenging and tough for the participants.

The teams taking part will come from Ghana, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Kenya, Morocco, Swaziland, Seychelles, Tanzania, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the hosts Mauritius.

The tournament, which was first held in 2001 in South Africa, has gained stature and is one of the premier events in the continent.

Kenya Golf Union (KGU) chairman Anthony Murage said Kenya team was confident to stage a good performance in Mauritius.

"We now have experience in the team we will parade. It is the same team that participated in Region IV Golf tournament, which was held in Burundi this year and their performance was incredible," Murage told reporters in Nairobi on Friday.

Youth players Mutahi Kibugu and Zubair Khan will team up with veteran amateurs Samuel Njoroge and Simon Njogu.

The four players have represented Kenya in international events before including the recent Victoria Cup held in Kampala, Uganda.

The competition is played over 72 holes Stroke play format. Murage will lead the team to Mauritius.?
