体坛英语新闻:Hoffenheim shock leaders Bayern 2-1 in Bundesliga
BERLIN, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hoffenheim returned to winning ways after Sargis Adamyan's brace flabbergasted Bayern Munich to take all three points on the road in the 7th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
The German record champions and front-runners suffered their first home defeat since October 2018, as a double strike from Adamyan was enough to secure Hoffenheim the second win of the season.
Hoffenheim started highly motivated into the encounter and came to their first chance of the game with just five minutes played when defender Jerome Boateng blocked Adamyan's effort in the last nick of time.
The hosts needed 24 minutes to gain a foothold into the match and they thought they had broken the deadlock but the referee ruled Serge Gnabry's goal offside.
Bayern remained on the front foot and should have opened the scoring but instead the Bundesliga leaders continued wasteful as Gnabry's shot forced Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann into action before Corentin Tolisso pulled over the bar from promising position.
After the restart, Hoffenheim took the reins and punished the hosts as Tolisso lost the ball to Sebastian Rudy, who passed into the past of Adamyan, whose left footed shot nutmegged Boateng and beat Bayern custodian Manuel Neuer into the near post corner in the 54th minute.
Niko Kovac's side needed some time to recover from the setback but gained momentum as the match progressed. Nevertheless, Hoffenheim remained able to threaten Bayern Munich's defense.
The hosts eventually restored parity in the 73rd minute after Robert Lewandowski headed home Thomas Muller's chip into the box to make it 1-1 on the scoreboards.
It was however short-lived joy for the "Bavarians" as Adamyan wasn't done with the scoring and wrapped up his brace after nutmegging Boateng and overcoming Neuer for the second time in the 79th minute.
Bayern increased the pressure but their efforts in the closing period couldn't prevent the first defeat of the season.
With the defeat, Bayern remain on the front spot for the moment meanwhile Hoffenheim climbed to the 11th place of the standings.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund grabbed the lead twice but in-from Freiburg reaped a late draw on an own goal from Manuel Akanji to move to the 2nd place of the table.
Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen missed the chance to go atop the standings after sharing the spoils following a 1-1 and Mainz ended their two-game losing streak after beating newly promoted Paderborn 2-1.
