体坛英语新闻:Red Star stun Fenerbahce 68-56 in basketball Euroleague
BELGRADE, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Serbian basketball champion Red Star upset Turkish Fenerbahce 68-56 in the second game of the group stage of the Euroleague on Thursday in Belgrade.
The home team started the team with tough defense in front of some 17,000 people at the Belgrade Arena.
The runners-up of the Turkish championship managed to catch up with the Red Star through points of Nando de Colo and Ali Muhammed and earn one point of advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Red Star managed to widen the gap early in the second quarter with a three pointer of Dejan Davidovac and go to halftime with five-point advantage.
Fenerbahce managed to recover in the final quarter and narrow the gap at 53-51, however a fast 5-0 run of Red Star dispersed any doubt about the outcome of the game.
This was the first victory for Red Star and the second defeat for Fenerbahce.
Lorenzo Brown scored 13 points along with 6 assists for the home team, while Stratos Perperoglou and James Gist added another 11 each. Nando de Colo scored the team high of 19 points for Fenerbahce.
Red Star will play their next game in Israel against Maccabi, while Fenerbahce will host the match against Baskonia.
