体坛英语新闻:Moreno's future uncertain as Enrique's Spain return rumored

MADRID, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Doubts have surfaced over the future of Spain coach Robert Moreno in the wake of his side's 5-0 win at home to Romania on Monday night.

The win ensured that the Spanish will be a top seed in the draw for next summer's European Championship finals after they finished top of their qualifying group with 26 points from 10 games in which the Spanish scored 31 goals and conceded just five.

However, in the run-up to Monday's game, the Spanish media was speculating that Luis Enrique could return to coach Spain for the European Championship finals just six months after resigning from the job.

The former Barcelona, Celta Vigo, and Roma coach stepped down from his role in August to help look after his daughter who was suffering from cancer and who sadly passed away shortly afterward.

At the time Moreno, who had worked as Luis Enrique's assistant at Barcelona and Celta, as well as with the national team, said he would be happy to go back to his former role if his former boss decided to return.

However, he cancelled his post-game press conference on Monday to avoid answering questions about his future and Tuesday morning's papers in Spain inform that the Sporting Director of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Jose Molina had informed Moreno after Monday's game that he would be sacked and that the coach was too upset to face the cameras.

Whatever Moreno's future, he can be proud of his record as coach which has seen him direct the Spain side in nine games with seven wins and away draws in Sweden and Norway, while his time in charge has also seen him give a chance to youngsters such as Dani Olmo and Pau Torres and hand a debut to the impressive striker Gerard Moreno.

Speaking on Monday, Gerard said he was with the coach "to the end," unfortunately for his namesake, it seems the RFEF may not feel the same way.
