体坛英语新闻:Pole Rudyk takes gold in sprint at track cycling World Cup in New Zealand
WARSAW, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Poland's Mateusz Rudyk beat Tomohiro Fukaya from Japan in sprint to secure his first World Cup victory in Cambridge, New Zealand on Sunday.
The event in New Zealand was the fourth round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. Rudyk showed that he is in good shape from the first to the last race, as he set a new Polish record in qualifying with 9.527.
In the semifinal, the Pole turned out to be better than the Japanese Yudai Nitta. Then Rudyk continued the momentum by beating Nitta's compatriot Tomohiro Fukaya. The victorious cyclist won both final races with 10.039 and 10.120.
In consequence, he took revenge, as he lost against Fukaya a week ago in Hong Kong in the races for the third place.
For Rudyk, who is the bronze medalist of this year's World Championship in Pruszkow, it is the first victory in World Cup in his career. Yudai Nitta took bronze medal after beating the Australian Nathan Hart.
The next event of World Cup will take place December 13-15 in Brisbane, Australia.
