体坛英语新闻:Shiffrin beats Vlhova in WC slalom clash
BRATISLAVA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- American star skier Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated a two-for-two weekend in Lienz, Austria, after dominating both the ladies' giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom event on Sunday.
The final FIS World Cup race of the year saw the traditional slalom rivals of Shiffrin and Slovakia's Petra Vlhova competing for the win, with Shiffrin edging Vlhova by 0.61 seconds.
After Wendy Holdener of Switzerland was disqualified due to straddling a gate, her compatriot Michelle Gisin placed third for the first slalom podium of her career, trailing Shiffrin by 1.72 seconds.
24-year-old Shiffrin thus won her 64th career World Cup race, and her 43rd in the slalom, tying the record of her recently-retired compatriot Lindsey Vonn for most wins in a single discipline.
Vlhova, who has been recently crowned Slovakia's sportsperson of the year, claimed the 29th podium finish of her career.
Shiffrin leads the overall World Cup standings with 746 points, with Federica Brignone of Italy a long way back in second place with 451 points, ahead of Vlhova in third with 413.
