体坛英语新闻:China lose 2nd game against Netherlands in FIH Women Hockey Pro League
NANJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- China lost their second game against the field hockey powerhouse, the Netherlands, 4-2 in the 2020 FIH Women Hockey Pro League in Changzhou city, east China's Jiangsu province on Sunday.
For the visitors who won their opener 3-0 on Saturday, Laura Nunnink scored in the sixth minute, Marloes Keetels made it to 2-0 midway through the second quarter before China's Peng Yang reduced the deficit on the stroke of half time.
However, close-range finishes from Lidewij Welten and Frederique Matla put the result beyond all doubt before China's Chen Ye netted a late consolation goal.
"Compared with yesterday's performance, there's a lot of changes to the whole team. Our girls showed their characteristics today, which is the improvement," said Wang Yang, the head coach of China.
China's captain Cui Quixia said: "We didn't score in the first match, but had two goals today, so I'm very happy. We had big problems in our defense and we need to change a lot. We need to learn [from these matches against the Netherlands]."
China will play against Belgium at home on February 8th and 9th.
The FIH Hockey Pro League features the nine best men's and women's national teams of the world in a six-month competition, with each team playing against the same opponents twice in a row in two days.
