BERLIN, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Achraf Hakimi's winner helped Borussia Dortmund to move up to the second place after beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 at the 25th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

The "Foals" grabbed a bright start on home soil and produced the first clear-cut chance of the game with seven minutes played as Stefan Lainer forced Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki into action.

However, the visitors marked the opener with the next chance at the other end of the pitch after Erling Haaland's through ball allowed Thorgan Hazard to beat custodian Yann Sommer into the bottom left corner.

Monchengladbach responded well and created promising opportunities but neither Ramy Bensebaini, who tested Burki twice, nor Lars Stindl was able to restore parity before the break.

The second half started similarly to the first half as Monchengladbach pressed Dortmund on the back foot. Different from the first 45 minutes, Monchengladbach's efforts eventually paid off with 50 minutes into the game as Stindl tapped home Alassane Plea's assist.

Dortmund then had the chance to grab the lead again but Sommer made a save to defuse Hazard's dangerous shot on target.

Monchengladbach's goalie was hapless though in the 71st minute as Jadon Sancho teed up for Hakimi, who scored his third goal of the season after putting the ball past Sommer into the far post corner.

Sancho almost got his name on the scoreboards as well but the curl from the England international rattled only the crossbar.

The hosts should have snatched a late draw but unmarked Breel Embolo pulled wide from close range in the closing period.

With the result, Borussia Dortmund moved past Leipzig on the 2nd place of the standings meanwhile Borussia Monchengladbach slipped to the 5th position.

The following games conclude the 25th round on Sunday: front runners Bayern Munich encounter Augsburg, and Mainz clash with relegation threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf.
