国际英语新闻:Ousted Kyrgyz president might lose immunity
BISHKEK, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Interim leader of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva said on Saturday night that the ousted Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev might be deprived of immunity.
The interim government previously promised to secure the personal security of Bakiyev, if the deposed president agrees to resign.
However, Otunbayeva said the public has been expressing dissatisfaction over the offer, and demanded no security guarantees to Bakiyev but rather a trial.
The interim government did not exclude the possibilities to discuss over the issue, said Otunbayeva.
Earlier reports said the opposition-controlled interim government had planned on Saturday to deprive the immunity of Bakiyev, who has so far refused to step down.
The health minister in the interim government said Saturday that the overnight deaths of three injured people has brought the total death toll from the unrest in the impoverished Central Asian country up to 79. More than 1,400 others were injured.
Earlier this week, thousands of protesters clashed with security forces throughout the country, driving out local governments and seizing government headquarters in Bishkek.
Bakiyev fled the capital to southern Kyrgyzstan and opposition parties formed an interim government led by Otunbayeva, the former foreign minister, on Thursday.
