BANGKOK, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from clashes between the troops and red-shirt protesters in Bangkok over the past four days has risen to 35, according to the Erawan emergency centre of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Monday morning.

The centre said 241 people were wounded since fresh clashes broke out in Thai capital Bangkok on Friday evening.

Fire and smoke are seen after protestors burned tyres at the Din Daeng area in Bangkok, capital of Thailand, May 16, 2010. Some 35 lost their lives and 241 others were wounded during clashes between troops and anti-government protestors starting from Friday in Thailand's capital Bangkok, the Erawan's Bangkok Emergency Medical Service Center said on Sunday.

The clashes occurred as the government led by prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva decided to seal off the red-shirt-occupied downtown area, where the anti-government protesters have been camped out since early April, demanding Abhisit to dissolve the lower house of parliament and hold snap election.
