The DNB is worried that this scenario also contains threats of further erosions in market confidence in European public finances, generating new financial turbulence.
However, the bank said "letting public finances slide is not an option."
"Intervention in European public finances is hence essential. It would mean more stability and resilience for the European economy."
To prevent future problems in public finances, governments must show more responsibility for a disciplined fiscal policy, the DNB said.
"The observance and enforcement of the Pact for Stability and Growth should also be improved."
