欧美文化:Regional conference on refugee crisis in CAR opens in Cameroon
YAOUNDE, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon on Monday began hosting the Regional Ministerial Conference on solutions to forced displacements related to the armed conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The three-day conference co-hosted by the UN Refugee Agency and the government of Cameroon will identify actions in response to the problems caused by displacements in CAR.
"We need to find real, effective and simple solutions to the refugee crisis in Central African Republic. As of Dec. 31, 2021, Cameroon hosted 335,587 Central African Republic refugees. They have been provided shelter, education and food," Cameroon's Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji said while opening the conference in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
"There is (an) urgent need for stronger regional and international support so as to better assure the immediate humanitarian response to the needs of these displaced persons and crucially to upgrade prospects for solutions in the Central African Republic and in the countries of asylum," said UN Refugee Agency's Regional Bureau Director for West and Central Africa Millicent Mutuli.
Senior government officials of the main countries hosting CAR nationals including Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and South Sudan are attending the conference that will end Wednesday.
