国际英语新闻:Thousands demonstrate in Munich against racism
MUNICH, Germany, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of people staged a large anti-racism demonstration on Saturday afternoon in the southern German city of Munich.
Some 5,000 people gathered at around 1 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT) on the Stachus Square and marched downtown to the city's central square Mary's Square to demonstrate against right-wing extremism. They recalled the fate of the victims killed by the Neo-Nazi terror group National Socialist Underground (NSU).
"Abolish constitutional protection" and "Munich Nazi remains free," read the banners carried by the demonstrators.
The organizers of the demonstration originally expected around 2000 participants.
The development came days ahead of the trial against the sole survivor of NSU and four other alleged neo-Nazi accomplices, which will take place on April 17, 2013.
