国际英语新闻:Venezuela election outcome helpful for bilateral ties: Russia
MOSCOW, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Election result in Venezuela creates conditions for continuing its partnership with Russia, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.
Moscow believes the election outcome helps secure succession in the strategic partnership between the two sides, the ministry said in an online comment.
Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela's acting president, narrowly won Sunday's election with 50.66 percent of the votes, according to the official figures.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the newly- elected Venezuelan leader for his victory, the ministry said, adding the elections were held in "a calm atmosphere with no serious violations of law."
Maduro, born in 1962, took over as the country's interim president following the death of President Hugo Chavez from cancer in March.
