国际英语新闻:Iraqi PM calls on dialogue to halt security deterioration

BAGHDAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki on Thursday called on Iraqis to convene around a dialogue table to find a way out of the security deterioration that followed a raid on Sunni protestors.

In a televised speech, Maliki said "I call on all Iraqis to come to dialogue to meet each other face to face to resolve the current crisis of our country."

Maliki warned that Iraq could go through another civil war if security deterioration is not curbed.

"There will be no winner in the sectarian strifes, everyone will be loser and let those who ignite it be prepared because it will burn their fingers too whether they are insiders or outsiders, " he stressed.

Maliki's remarks came two days after clashes erupted between Iraqi security forces and anti-government Sunni protesters in Hawijah, after hundreds of security members backed by helicopters stormed a sit-in by Sunni Arabs in the city, an operation that sparked further clashes across Iraq between the Sunni tribes and the security forces.
