国际英语新闻:U.S. House Speaker says Obama won't negotiate
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said on Wednesday that U.S. President Barack Obama reiterated at the meeting with the congressional leaders that he won't negotiate.
After a 90-minute meeting at the White House, Boehner said in a very brief statement that Obama refused to negotiate and they are still divided.
He told reporters that the Republicans want to have conferees appointed to a joint conference committee to resolve the differences.
Obama summoned the Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress to the White House for an afternoon meeting as the government shutdown dragged to the second day.
It was the first such meeting since many of the U.S. federal government agencies were forced to close doors from midnight Monday.
