国际英语新闻:16 killed, 32 wounded in violent attacks in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 people were killed and 32 others wounded in violent attacks across Iraq on Monday, police said.
Six people were killed and 14 others wounded in a roadside bomb attack near a popular cafe in the Arab Jubur area in southern Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Another roadside bomb went off near a medical clinic in the Abu Ghraib area west of Baghdad, killing two people and injuring five others, he added.
Five people, including a soldier and a policeman, were killed and four others wounded in two separate attacks in the Saladin province north of Baghdad, the police source said.
Two policemen were killed and one was wounded in an attack on a police checkpoint in Fallujah, 50 km west of Baghdad, he said, adding that one civilian was killed and one injured when a roadside bomb struck their car in a village, 20 km west of Fallujah.
In the eastern province of Diyala, a total of seven people were wounded in three separate attacks, the source added.
Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, almost 6, 000 Iraqis were killed and over 14,000 others injured from January to September this year.
