DUBAI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The Dubai-based world free zone organization (World FZO) said here on Sunday that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in order to promote the free zone concept globally.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by World FZO chairman of the board of directors Dr. Mohammed Alzarooni who is also the general director of the Dubai airport free zone and Dr. Mohammed Lamine Dhaoui, a director at UNIDO, which sets out to enhance global investment and expand trade.
The statement said both parties aim to achieve this objective by introducing successful development initiatives from UNIDO to World FZO members. This objective shall be reached through educating developing economies about the uses and advantages of free zones, transferring knowledge, experience and best practices, and utilizing UNIDO's expertise where appropriate.
World FZO, a global non-profit body aimed at spurring collaboration between all economic free zones in the world, was launched in Dubai on May 19 2014. It is open to all free zones from any UN member states and has so far attracted 14 members from North America, South America, Africa and Asia. The Shanghai pilot free trade zone is one of the 14 founding members as well as Dubai airport free zone. Dr. Mohammed Lamine Dhaoui from UNIDO said they will also work on promoting domestic investment for leveraging foreign direct investment (FDI).
