国际英语新闻:Deaths from dengue fever reach 87 this year in Malaysia
KURA LUMPUR, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- By the end of July 5, the death toll from dengue fever has climbed to 87 this year in Malaysia. Subramaniam, the Malaysian Health Minister, said in Putra Jaya Wednesday.
Subramaniam said, by the end of last week, Malaysia had reported 4.668 million confirmed cases of the dengue fever, with a year-on-year growth of 246 percent. There were 87 death cases, with year- on- year growth of 222 percent.
He also said that the number of dengue disease hotpots has increased to 93 this year in Malaysia, and the largest number is in Negeri Selangor, accounting for 90 percent of the total hotpots.
He pointed out that the main causes of the disease include hot weather, people’s weak environmental awareness, waste accumulation and so on. In dealing with this crises, Malaysian government has set up the Cabinet Special Committee led by deputy premier Mohieldin.
He also revealed that the Malaysian Health Ministry will carry out termite elimination project recently.
