国内英语新闻:Egypt declares state of emergency in Sinai
CAIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Egypt declared a three-month state of emergency in parts of the restive northern Sinai late on Friday night after a suicide car bombing killed 30 soldiers on the peninsular earlier in the day, according to the presidency.
The presidency said in a statement that the measure will take effect at 5 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) on Saturday for a duration of three months due to security reasons. President Abdel Fattah al- Sisi also ordered a curfew in the areas near Egypt's borders with Israel and the Gaza Strip.
The deadly car explosion targeting a security checkpoint in the city of Sheikh Zuweid Friday afternoon has killed at least 30 soldiers and wounded 28 others. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Attacks on security men and premises have been growing since the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi by the military in July 2013 and the massive security crackdown on his supporters, which left about 1,000 of them killed and thousands more arrested.
