国际英语新闻:Suspected case of Ebola ruled out in Japan
OSAKA, Japan, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Guinean woman detected fever at Kansai airport in Osaka Friday was tested negative for Ebola virus, said the ministry of health, labor and welfare Saturday afternoon.
The woman, in her 20s, arrived at Kansai airport at 4:49 p.m. Friday, and was detected having a fever of 37-38 at the quarantine station.
The woman claimed to have had no contact with Ebola patients, and preliminary exams showed possible infection with malaria.
Further tests of the woman's blood sample in Tokyo show no sign of Ebola infection, according to the ministry.
This is the third case of suspected Ebola infection in Japan, with suspected infection of the virus ruled out for a Tokyo man in his 60s earlier Saturday and for a Canadian man in his 40s last month.
As the Ebola virus continues to spread around the world, Japan has required its airports to improve quarantine measures, and travelers from Ebola-hit African countries are asked to report their conditions to the quarantine stations.
According to the World Health Organization, the death toll caused by the deadly virus infection increased to 4,951 out of 13, 567 cases as of Oct. 29, and Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are the top three countries that face the epidemic.
