国际英语新闻:UN chief says to support Vietnam's development
HANOI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the UN will support Vietnam's sustainable development while meeting with Chairman of Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Saturday.
Ban affirmed the UN's support for Vietnam in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and commitments in the Hanoi Declaration adopted at the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly held last month in Hanoi, during which the agenda for Sustainable Development Goals for post-2015 period was discussed.
The Secretary General hailed the contributions made by Vietnam, especially the country's National Assembly, in developing important solutions to realize sustainable development goals and climate change adaptation.
On the same day, the UN chief attended the ongoing ninth session of the 13th Vietnamese NA when he spoke highly of Vietnam' s achievements in implementing MDGs as the leading country to fulfill the goals, believing that with its experience, the country will also one of the pioneers in implementing SDGs in the time ahead.
The Vietnamese NA chairman, for his part, said Vietnam has actively participated in the UN's forums and activities for a peaceful and prosperous world, hoping that the country will receive continuous support from the UN chief during the nation- building process as well as in implementing MDGs, reported Vietnam 's state-run news agency VNA.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is paying a two-day visit to Vietnam, which focuses on environmental sustainablity and climate change, at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang.
