国际英语新闻:Martin Schulz: No Brexit negotiations without notification
MADRID, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- European Parliament President Martin Schulz said here Friday there would be "no negotiation (of the Brexit) without notification."
Schulz visited the Spanish capital of Madrid on Friday in order to hold a meeting with acting Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
The visit was to help fix the European agenda in the wake of the recent meeting of EU leaders (with the exception of British Prime Minister Theresa May) in Bratislava to discuss Britain's decision to leave the EU, and to prepare for the next European Council meeting on Oct. 20-21.
"We are in a post-Brexit, post Bratislava situation and we have to prepare a European Council meeting, dedicated to the Brexit," explained Schulz to the press at Rajoy's official residence in the Palacio de la Moncloa.
"We are going to have a treaty to deal with the UK exit when Theresa May (who I met a fortnight ago) presents the decision to leave and the treaty will be ratified by the European Parliament," said Schulz.
"That is why it is very important to collect the opinions of the diverse European nations," he added, insisting there would be "no negotiation (of the Brexit) without notification."
He made an appeal for stability in institutions, economy and in the political situation but insisted "a united Europe can make a significant contribution to resolving problems."
